The Ontogenesis Network

The name Ontogenesis is a play on the words: ontology, ontogeny and genesis.

 

Ontology: A formal explicit specification of an agreed conceptualisation of a domain of knowledge.

Ontogeny:  The course of growth and development of an individual (ontology) to its mature form.

Genesis: Origin, mode of formation or creation.

New OWL tutorial

Robert Stevens and Simon Jupp gave a short tutorial entitled 'Properties and Individuals in OWL: A Family History' at the 11th International Protégé Conference 2009.  This has been extended into a one and half day tutorial, which has since been held at the University of Manchester. The tutorial builds on knowledge gained from the world-renowned introductory 'Pizza tutorial'.

Blogging a book

Phil Lord, a lecturer at Newcastle University, has led two meetings that aim to create an open source ontogenesis educational resource by devising a peer-reviewed process that enables persons to contribute articles to a blog.


About the Ontogenesis Network

Robert Stevens and David Shotton are Principal Investigators of the Ontogenesis Network grant.

It aims to create "a network of excellence to foster the creation, ontogeny and evolution of biological ontologies."
