Network Meeting 2: The Ontology Lifecycle and Tools
The theme of the second network meeting, hosted by the University of Manchester, is the identification of requirements at different stages of the ontology life cycle that may have specific tool support requirements.
During the meeting we aim to:
identify and discuss the aspects at each stage of the ontology building lifecycle that produce different requirements"
discuss how the development of tools (& standards) should account for these differing requirements. In particular we will focus on how tools can adapt to different requirements.
introduce a variety of ontology building tools concentrating on how they can be adapted and what to do if "you" find a requirement that a generic view of a tool does not allow you to cope with in a satisfactory way.

By bus
The University of Manchester is well served by bus routes. Most of these are accessible from the rail stations at Oxford Road and at Piccadilly and at numerous points across the city. Many buses will carry the destinations: University of Manchester, Owens Park, Didsbury etc.
Asking for "the first stop under the Precinct Centre bridge" will leave you directly outside the Kilburn building. Located along the north side of the building is the main entrance to Manchester Computing. Finding buses outside the stations and city centre is relatively easy.
By Car
It is advisable to use public transport to travel to Manchester, as there is a lot of congestion on both the main motorways and ring-roads. However if you do need to travel by car, directions are available from Multimap www.multimap.co.uk - our postcode is M13 9PL
Parking
There is a public multi-storey car park on Booth Street East (building numbered 66 in top right corner) which is convenient for visitors to both the Kilburn and IT Buildings. Current charges are £3 per day. Official visitors to the department may request that their host sends them a parking permit prior to their visit which will give access to the university's North East Car Park (also reached from Booth Street East). There is no free on-street parking in the area.
By rail
Manchester has three main stations: Oxford Road, Piccadilly and Victoria. The easiest way to get from here is by cab.

3. Potential Discussion Points
* A consensus of ontology development lifecycle phases and key characteristics of lifecycle phases and transitions
* A shortlist of ontology purposes/intended outcomes that help to differentiate how purpose affects task behaviour in the aforementioned phases
* An identification of the tasks that characterise ontology development in our cohort
* A set of points that help to compare and contrast the characteristics of the ontology development tools represented at the meeting
* Identify features that may be transferable to improve the experience of ontology development, particularly between existing tools
* A set of requirements, providing for tasks that we have identified that a) Can be suitably and reasonably be addressed by current tools
b) Require more focused technological development and/or standards
* A consideration of the most rate limiting tasks in the lifecycle
4. Blog
During the workshop there will be a BLOG for you to record your thoughts!
The blog can be found at
